Marty Halprin - Bio

Born and raised in Woodbridge, Marty has always called Connecticut home. Marty graduated from the University of Hartford with an accounting degree and then returned to Woodbridge to join his father in running his family’s home and building inspection business. While working as a licensed home and building inspector, Marty joined the Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Department where he was an active member for several years before becoming a professional firefighter with the City of Milford.

Marty has held numerous leadership positions with the Milford Fire Department, first as Lieutenant, then as the Captain of Squad 1, then as Training & Safety Captain, and finally as Battalion Chief in charge of Planning, Safety and Training. As Battalion Chief, Marty oversaw the training and safety of 112 firefighters, and managed the Milford Fire Department’s training, equipment, and uniform budgets.  Marty recently retired this past March, and is ready for a new leadership role.

Since 1999, Marty has also been a successful real estate owner and property manager. He has leveraged his accounting and building inspector acumen to successfully manage both commercial and residential properties throughout New Haven County.

Marty’s professional experiences have also proved invaluable while volunteering on multiple boards. As a member of Woodbridge’s Commission on the Use of Publicly Owned Properties (CUPOP), the Executive Board of Firefighter Union Local 944, and Congregation B’nai Jacob’s Executive Board, Marty has served diverse constituencies while remaining steadfast in his philosophy that organizations can always do better.

Seeking to provide a positive community-wide event, Marty established the JCC’s annual Touch-A-Truck Event and served as its chair for two years. Marty has been routinely recognized for his effective and approachable leadership qualities, receiving multiple awards, including the Robert Eisner Community Service Award (2017) and the Kavod Society Award (2017).

Marty’s list of responsible leadership doesn’t stop there. As the Chair of the B’nai Jacob House Committee for more than four years, Marty oversaw the budget and management of B’nai Jacob’s 60,000 sq. ft. building, including all of its capital projects, staff, and landlord-tenant governance.

When not volunteering or working, Marty can be seen around town (and the greater Amity school district), cheering on his three daughters at their respective sports competitions, school recitals, and scouting events.

“My business knowledge as a property manager and emergency management experience as a professional firefighter will help me successfully lead my hometown as First Selectman.  As a lifelong unaffiliated voter, I will bring both parties together and champion the right decisions for all residents, irrespective of politics.”
