JAVIER AVILES (R)
BOARD OF SELECTMEN
Javier Aviles - Bio
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Louisiana, Javier attended Louisiana State University where he majored in Accounting. During college, Javier also worked full time at a public accounting firm which helped him develop the skills and knowledge he needed to pass the Uniform CPA Exam less than a year after graduating.
Upon graduation, Javier accepted a position with Merrill Lynch, worked his way up the organization and was promoted to a managerial position in 2008, one of only two selected in the entire company that year. Javier excelled in this role, where he served as a client advocate inside one of the largest and oldest brokerage firms on Wall Street. Javier quickly earned a reputation as a leader, earning him some of the toughest assignments in the most difficult markets all across the country, and even an international assignment in London. Javier continues to perform a similar role today at JPMorgan Wealth Management, using his 21 years of industry experience to protect clients and manage risk.
Javier and his family moved to Woodbridge in 2017 after the birth of their first daughter. He and his wife Kelly now have two young girls that keep them particularly busy. Once an avid movie buff, Javier has now become a connoisseur of children’s television shows, and knows most of the songs from Coco Melon, Disney, and The Wiggles by heart!
When Javier isn't advocating for clients or chasing his daughters, he keeps busy serving Woodbridge through various roles on town Boards and Commissions. He has served as the Deputy Registrar of Voters, and was the 17th District election moderator for the 2022 Federal mid-term elections in Woodbridge. Javier also serves as a Commissioner on the Commission on the Use of Publicly Owned Property, and is a member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Javier is running for a seat on the Board of Selectmen because he believes there is much more we can do to preserve the wonderful rural character of Woodbridge, while still investing in our excellent public schools. Javier will work to stabilize the financial future of the town (and the mill rate), pursuing new public and private sources of revenue, while leveraging his financial expertise to seek efficiencies in spending. Javier will advocate for tax and support programs that help keep our seniors in the homes they currently own in Woodbridge, and believes this is a key factor in helping control the town’s mill rate.
